Governance Surgeries

Governance Surgeries

The Governance Services Team provides ‘Governance Surgeries’ as an additional means of support for governors, trustees and school leaders.  The aim of the surgeries is to provide drop in sessions, available for individuals or groups of governors and trustees, to receive advice and guidance on either general issues or very specific issues pertaining to their own board or school.

The service will allocate an appropriate Governance Services Team Lead or Manager for the session, depending on the topic or areas of expertise requested. Governors, trustees and leaders would be expected to submit a general notification of the topic to be discussed beforehand prior to any face to face meeting.

The surgeries are held on the last Friday of each calendar month at the Bolton Science and Technology Centre, Minerva Road, Farnworth, BL4 0HA, during term time and office hours, however, an out of hours session could be held by special arrangement. A follow up session, telephone call or email will be undertaken if required. The service is free of charge to those schools that purchase the Clerking and Support Service Level Agreement.

The Surgeries offer a further dimension for Governance Services to develop a support network for governors and trustees within the Bolton Family and general topics will inform other sessions provided by the service, for example, Chairs’ Briefing, Partnership Forum, Cluster Groups or Governance training sessions. Full confidentiality of discussions will be maintained.

Please call or email to book a session on one of the surgery dates below at governance.services@bolton.gov.uk or telephone on 01204 332107.
