Virtual School Governance Training

Overview of Learning

In this session, we will explore the role governors play in championing and supporting the education of children with a social worker. Focusing on how governors can use information, strategic oversight, and effective challenge to ensure that vulnerable children achieve positive educational outcomes and that schools meet their responsibilities within the statutory guidance.

By the end of this session, you will be aware of:

  • Who children with a social worker are and why they are considered a key vulnerable group.
  • The role of the Virtual School and the responsibilities of schools, governing boards, and designated safeguarding leads in supporting these children.
  • What information governors should receive to understand the educational experiences and outcomes of children with a social worker.
  • The questions governors should be asking school leaders about attendance, attainment, behaviour, exclusions, and wider wellbeing.
  • The importance of regular monitoring, challenge, and support to ensure that barriers to learning are identified and addressed.
  • How effective governance contributes to improved educational outcomes for children with a social worker.
  • What Ofsted may consider when evaluating the effectiveness of support for vulnerable pupils, including children with a social worker, as part of the wider inspection framework.

Format:

This course will be held in person at the Inclusive Education Learning Centre@Smithills.

Pricing and Cancellation

This course will be a recorded video session. This will be released to you on the date advertised and available to view via the secure Bolton Governance Gateway website. Notification will be made via email.  You can view the recording at your leisure after this date.

Fees for this session are payable via the school budget and not by individual members of the governing board. If your governing board has signed up to the Governance Training Service Level Agreement, sessions are free of charge. Governors of governing boards who have not signed up to the Governance Training Service Level Agreement may attend for a fee of £98 per session.

If you are unable to attend a course, we ask that you please notify the Governance Services Team on 01204 332104/ 07766698173 at the earliest opportunity and at least five working days prior to the course date to enable the place to be offered to others.

Cancellation fees will apply for non-attendance or if a place is cancelled by the delegate within five working days of the course date. Schools who have signed up to the Governance Training Service Level Agreement will be charged £50 for each cancellation within five days of the course. If your school has not signed up to the SLA the full course fee will be charged. Fees may be waived in exceptional circumstances.
