Workshop: Creating a Positive Culture – Induction, Retention and Succession Planning, Future Proof Strategic Governance!

Effective induction of new governors and trustees is crucial to ensuring their retention on the board. This workshop provides guidance and practical advice on developing a comprehensive induction package that supports new board members to contribute effectively and feel part of the team from the start of their term of office.

This workshop also aims to assist boards with the process of devising a succession plan to ensure its future strength and effectiveness. Succession planning involves identifying individuals and developing them to prepare to step into a role when others step down.

By the end of the session, you will have:

  • Have identified the key principles which underpin a good practice approach to the induction of new governors/ trustee
  • Examined the key elements of effective succession planning.
  • considered the succession cycle in formulating a succession plan.
  • Explored, through discussion, the approaches to succession planning undertaken by other boards.

As this is a practical workshop, delegates will be asked to bring to the session copies of their board’s governance working arrangements, along with any work/ development plans for the board. These can be referred to and reflected upon during the workshop. Delegates will receive an email containing guidance and instructions ahead of the session.
